Best Review on Great Planes Realflight helicopter Megapack
I wanted a flight simulator so I'd have a more successful time learning to fly my new 4 channel RC helicopter. At first I looked for a cheap simulator, but it wouldn't work with Windows 7. I considered Phoenix, but I don't recall the reasons I didn't purchase that package. I finally decided to buy the Realflight Helicopter simulator and I'm very glad I did. This package is amazing. I have my choice of several planes, from high-wing trainer to jets, and my choice of helicopters - trainers to 3D. I also have my choice of different flying environments - water and land. I was an RC airplane pilot, so just for fun I flew a float plane in the Louisiana Bayou. As if all of this wasn't enough, I stumbled on an entire training section that has videos of instructors showing each progressive step necessary to learn to fly. I'm getting pretty good at hovering from different perspectives of viewing the helicopter, so very soon I'll try flying my RC heli with confidence. Don't cheap out on a simulator, this thing will pay for itself in fewer crashes and overall entertainment.

As a novice helicopter RC flyer, I quickly learned that these are fairly delicate machines which can break if you repeatedly crash them, however "minor" may be the crash. My 4-channel helicopter was in the shop for repairs and I was thinking I can just hop on a 6-channel and "go". I was smart enough to take the advice of the local hobby store owner and hold off on purchasing a 6-channel. Instead, I bought RF6 simulator.
BalasHapusI am very glad I did!
If you think you are ready to fly a 6-channel after feeling confident with a fixed-pitch 4-channel, you better think twice. If the helis in RF6 are anything like the real thing, RF6 is a MUST-purchase before you spend the money on a 6-channel. It is sooo much more difficult to fly a 6-channel than a 4-channel heli!
The installation on a Windows 7 Professional was straightforward, and the update was automatic with a few clicks of the mouse. I was then able to launch the software quickly. I especially enjoy the training (heli hover, heli autorotation, and heli orientation) portions of the software to get a novice acquainted. The full-size RC "radio" controller is actually made by Futaba, a reputable RC radio company.
The background is fairly realistic, and you can "dial in" any sun, wind, and thermal characteristics of your flying environment. As far as I can tell, and in my limited RC helicopter experience, this is a very real representation of actually flying a 6-channel RC (including how the heli responds when you crash into things). I have flown into objects, have the canopy and one of the landing skids "break off" (as rendered by RF6), and still able to fly it "crippled" with the image depicting the physical damage to the heli. That's pretty darn realistic!
I am still spending a lot of time on the Tutor Trainer, which is one of the helicopters in RF6. If you are thinking of spending hundreds of dollars on a 6-channel, I would highly recommend that you get the RF6.
I am well pleased with this product. I found it to be as advertised. Having flown RC model planes for over twenty years this is the second best thing. This is going to save me a lot of money in learning to fly the RC Helicopters.
BalasHapusThis is NOT a game, this is a sim and that is good! This is a very, very realistic sim. This sim can be set up to be as hard to fly as real R/C planes and helicopters. Seriously, if you can fly this sim without crashing, you'll be able to fly real R/C planes and helicopters. The R/C controller that comes with this feels and works exactly the same as a real one so you won't need to "re-learn" anything when you start flying for real.
BalasHapusThis really is a must have item for any RD flyer.
BalasHapusIt lets you practice that hard to get move without
putting your helicopter (or airplane) at risk.
Love this software. Had one problem getting the software to recognize the controller was plugged in on win 7. I called the company for support they gave me directions to go into the properties of the software and change the privileges to administrator. This cured the problem. No more problems to speak of.

BalasHapusThis product is awesome if you are thinking of getting serious about the hobby and have flown the 2 blade set gyroscopic type buy this product before you buy a real hobby helicopter it will save hours of frustration and lots of money I've had it a week and a half and saved at least what they simulator is worth. BalasHapusGreat way to get time at the sticks with an RC chopper without having to deal out the $$ for repairs.
BalasHapusNothing can replace the real thing however but this offers a great starting point for novice pilots and helps build confidence too.
