My others sets are going in the trash.....

Boxer Pcs 4mm Precision Screwdriver

I recently received my set from Amazon. Id had a cheap set of mini screwdrivers, but wanted a set that was magnetized... as the tiny screws Id tried to put in were too small to handle well with just my finger-tips. The magnet in this one holds the small screws in place very well, and also holds in the tips you put into the handle.. very securely. None of the previous reviews seemed to mention how the swivel handle works. It works well; the top part (the Red part) of the handle swivels, so you can push down on the top of the screwdriver with the palm of your hand, while turning the lower part with your fingers, to screw-in your screw (one-handed); or, you can do it with 2 hands. Either way it works well. Based on previous reviews, I hope my tips dont bend, but I dont plan to disassemble computers or any big projects, just eyeglasses, and small electronics. The insert gives a California address for Boxer, but says made in Taiwan, this is 'free' China, who has been a modern and well-developed country, and strong ally of the US, for many years, I have a lot of trust in workers from there.

  1. The set is exactly what it claims to be, and is well-made, functional, and well-organized. The driver bits are as described in the listing: several types of screwdrivers, Torx bits, and Allen (hex) bits, in a range of small sizes. The screwdriver bits include flat, standard Phillips and Posi-drive Phillips (a Phillips-head with small wings between the crossed head flanges, for more purchase); the standard Phillps driver can be used on Posi-drive screws, but not the other way around, so you have to look closely to be sure you have the correct bit. The precise sizes are listed; essentially they run from "jeweler's" size to the small end of the normal range. The size is engraved on each bit shaft, though the markings are tiny. (Note: the T6 and T8 Torx sizes, and the small Phillips-heads, are appropriate for the case screws on Mac computers; I have used this set for that purpose, and it works great.) The bits appear to be very well-machined; the heads are precisely cut and well-finished. I cannot speak to the hardness treatment, but they appear to be good quality. The bits are all magnetized, and hold small screws very well while placing them in or removing them from threadholes. The driver is a little larger than usual for "jeweler's screwdriver" sets, but is comfortable and easy to hold. The shaft is steel with a standard hex-sided bit holder; the handle portion is covered in plastic with a rubber gripping surface, and the rotating top piece is also plastic. I was a bit leery of the plastic handle at first, but it seems to work OK. The bits and driver are well organized and easily accessible, in angled slots in a sturdy case with a latch; the case and lid are hard plastic, but not too flimsy. In short, this is a good set that is functional and seems to be well-made; it is an excellent deal at the price.

  2. I've used this screw driver kit from Boxer for about three years now and they are excellent. I use them to repair anything from desktops (they're sometimes a little too small so a larger one comes in handy) to laptops and everything in between. I find them ideal for work on Macs, especially. I like that they come with about every bit that a computer manufacturer would use and they all fit nicely back into the small kit.

Like I said, I've used the same kit for three years so that attests to its durability. They're very well made - just don't drop the plastic case (the door hinge cracked off so I super glued it back on).

  3. Initially I needed the T-5 torx bit, but I use this set more and more lately.

The driver part has a metal shaft and a plastic/rubber handle with a swivel top. It is more stiff than I thought, and while not a professional product, I doubt this will break anytime soon. The bits are not standard 5mm bits but a reduced 4mm size, so they are not interchangeable with most drivers.

    My set has:
    torx 20, 15,10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3
    hex (allen) 4mm, 3, 2.5, 2, 1.5, 1.3, 0.9, 0.7mm
    flat screwdriver 3, 2.5, 2, 1.5, 1.0
    PZ1, PZ0
    Philips screwdriver PH1, 0, 00, 000
    and the driver.

  4. We bought these to be able to swap parts on Motorola Razors. The torx heads and screwdrivers were small enough to do that. Those screws are really small.

  5. I'm not really sure what people were talking about with the screwdriver breaking. This thing has been rock solid for me, and I use it every day taking apart laptops and other small electronics at my job. The stuff is well built (especially for the price), and I have yet encounter a screw that I couldn't access with this thing. Great purchase, and I would definitely recommend.

  6. At less than $15, this is an incredible deal. Feels very sturdy with a very wide selection of tips to choose from. A real value.
