7009 Double Horse Speed Boat

This is a good well put together boat. Its fast for how small it is, and very fun. The access port seals very well, almost no water gets in.(will sink like a rock if it does). I used some of the polystyrene from the package to fill in the hull, being sure I did not stop what air flow keeps the motor cool. The boat has a nice finish and looks less like a toy than I would have thought. The transmitter is good to, sturdy and light, and only requires a 9v battery. For the money I paid I feel Its worth it. Ive got about 23 runs on this boat and she is still going strong. The battery is what you would expect from NIMH, slow to charge and lasts about 4-5 minutes. I think a small 2 cell lipo would really up the enjoyment factor of this little boat! another nice thing is the motor mount is well done, if there were to be a problem in the future you could slap another 380 motor (brushless)in it. Great job! and good product double horse!

  1. Great boat.......Runs really fast and turns very well. Reverse gear is a real plu. Boat is really robust and even floats on the water when it turned up side down due to sharp turning capability and speed of boat. You will have a lot of fun with the boat.......

  2. This is a nice little rc speed boat. Its faster than i expected. A little on the heavy side, takes a bit to get up on plain. and turns a little to fast and tends to spin out. Other than that very pleased with this purchase.

  3. Works great and very fast. The nut and propeller can come off pretty easily. Fixed with some Loctite. Other than that a great boat.

  4. For $30ish dollars this is a great value and a lot of fun. However here are a few pointers:

    - The safety feature of not rotating the propeller unless its in the water sometimes cuts power even if the boat is in the water. However after a second or so it works again. Some people bypass this feature and more details can be found online.

    - In my case, the propeller nut was not tightened during manufacturing against the propeller. As a result, when I put the boat on reverse a couple of times the nut come loose, unscrew and it dropped out with the propeller following after. I was able to find the propeller but not the nut. It was mentioned online that a M2.5 nut would fit. I located some on a local RC shop for less than $1 so I will give you an update soon. After finding the propeller, I put it back on without the tightening nut and it worked fine as long as I did not use reverse! UPDATE: I found M2.5 nuts at the local RC store for $1. Repair completed and boat tested. Works great!

  7. UPDATE: There is a now a better bang for the buck to the Double Horse 7009. It's called the FT007. The FT007 comes with a 2.4Ghz transmitter and is self-righting......2 very important features to have in an entry-level boat. It's still brushed and comes with NiMH battery so it's not going to have the power of a brushless setup, but it's also less maintenence and worry than if it had a LiPo battery.

I did quite a bit of research before buying this. The boat is relatively a new model. It does have some competitors that have water cooling, more powerful engine and 2.4Ghz radio, but with shipping they were more expensive.

The boat flies. The remote is fully proportional for fine throttle and steering control. The antennae is a little flimsy so be careful. I swapped mine out with a beefier spare remote I had. Not too much problem with water entry after running.......I'd say 5-10 drops after running. I did put a shroud around the motor cooling fan to make it more efficient and plan on putting a heat sink on the motor later.

When taking off it seems like it's slow, but once it gets up to speed, it gets on a plane and raises the whole body out of the water and then she really gets moving. Doing circles is fun and she leans into turns really good, even at full speed. I haven't flipped her yet but have only done a few runs.

She's fun to watch on choppy water, being able to keep plane most of the time as long as you stay in the throttle, and shes really goes fast on glassy water, which is expected.

Range is OK as it's FM, which is why I'll probably upgrade to a 2.4 Ghz micro as I can only navigate half my lake, but the good thing is that when she gets out of range, she immediately cuts throttle, so all you have to do is rais the remote above your head and coax her back into range. I did order 3 extra batteries for 5 bucks a piece plus shipping:

I also have an aftermarket charger that I'm using in place of the stock charger allowing me to quick charge the battery in 15 minutes instead of 3 hours.

The nice thing about these micros is that they're really portable fun that don't require large bodies of water, but you're also not limited to small ponds either. It really is too small for Ocean\Sea\Saltwater use and I wouldn't suggest salt-water running anyways due to corrosion. I also bypassed the safety feature which only lets the motor\rudder run when it's in water.

    Here's my videos of her:

My next boat will probably be a Hobby King Warrior V2 or it's generic equivalent Joysway Warrior Offshore Lite (which I wish Amazon would carry).
