Read First Before Buy HobbyZone HBZ7700 Firebird Stratos RTF
This plane is by far the easiest and coolest flying machine I have ever owned. After several flights, I decided to get risky, which resulted in a full speed crash straight into a wall. We are talking full blown crash and burn, no chance of survival type of crash. Not only did the plane survive, all I had to do was reinstall the "pop-off" wing and i was flying again. The rubber nose must have absorbed the majority of the crash. 10/10 tons of fun. The battery lasts a lot longer than 10 minutes. Casually flying with the engines at ultra low speeds (just before stalling) you can fly for at least 45 minutes. People line up to watch this thing fly. I was doing loops and barrel rolls on my first flight. Super easy to land, as the onboard computer basically glides it to the ground for you.

I've had this palne for a few months now and have crashed in every way possible. I really cant believe this thing still flies with what i've put it through, i'm talking the tops of trees, and yes, I said trees, high lines, and just flat out flying straight in to stationary objects that are normally hard to move unless you're driving them. Highly recommended for beginners, because this three channel aircraft is fun and a breeze to fly.
BalasHapusFor my first flight I mistakenly crashed nose first and only damage was a few scratches. The second flight i was able to fly it perfectly, take off and landing. And I am only 11. My father is really jealous and wants one of his own.
BalasHapusHi, I own over twenty planes and copters, I got the stratos from my father in law as a present. I have never owned a three channel plane, but I love this plane immensely because of its ease of flight and the fun factor. It takes off without a hitch from a small amount of runway, turns beautifully, and lands on grass or pavement with ease, I have never been good at landing and have caused the most damge to my other planes upon landing, but this baby glides right in without a hitch. Its very durable, and flies great. I wish I had one of these when I first started this hobby because I almost gave up on flying after the many crashed and hundreds of dollars in repairs after every flight on the bigger planes that I started on. Needless to say, this the first plane I grab when I want to go flying, but the downside is that it cannot perform loops or any other type of aerial trick so that is why it will not be the only plane you own once you become better at flying.
BalasHapusThis was the first plane I ever flew. I could not make up my mind on which plane to order as a beginner because I wanted something I thought I could grow into at the same time. Putting the plane together out of the box was simple. The only thing that I hated was the charger is DC only so I couldnt just plug it into the wall. When I stuck the charger into my car's DC plug I really had to cram it in their to get it to begin charging but once I had a solid connection it charged pretty quickly. The first couple flights I crashed but the plane held up well. By the end of the day I was flying it with some skill, performing backflips and such but I still havent mastered it. Landing is complicated but since this plane glides well I can touch it down without major damage. The twin engines can really get the plane moving fast so you have to be easy on the throttle. All in all this plane is a blast to fly and once you get past the first flight jitter's you can really start to enjoy the flight times. I will post back after more time with the plane.
BalasHapusOrdered this after trying to build me a Foam starter plane. Got this in less than 1 week (Live in Japan FPO/AP) Put the plane together is very simple. Took about 30 min.
BalasHapusWent out to fly after work. It was a little windy but the plane flew like champ. Crashed nose first on my first flight but the plane took no damage. Second flight hit a tree limb and the wings broke away just like they said in the instruction book.
So figured it would be better to take it to the baseball field to fly. After about 15 min I was flying like a champ. The plane is great for first time flyers and would recommend anyone that wants to start out flying that they should get this plane.
My buddy bought a mini super cub and brought it over. We spent most of day glueing fuselage back togerther after a bad crash. It was still very fun to fly. I was looking at buying a cub until I saw this plane and loved the dual engines and looks. I put it together in less then a hour and had it flying without landing gear that night. After 5 suceesful belly landings in the grass I put landing gear on and was able to land it in parking lot on first try. I had one hard landing and broke off the front nose wheel. Two strips of packing tape and i was back in business. This thing flys awesome. Loops are easy as well as take off and landings. With a slight head wind this thing will almost hover to the ground. The best feature over the cub is the dual engines allow you to steer the plane on the ground making taking off in street so much easier. I have set the rudder and elevator controls to the maximimum control setting and the plane is very exciting to fly. I have already bought four batteries so I can have more flying time between charges. I would definately reccomend this plane to anyone looking for a fun saturday in the park.

BalasHapusI got this for my 11 year old son for his birthday, but I've had a blast flying it too. My son had some fixed wing experience with the ParkZone Night Vapor BNF and the Phoenix RC Flight Simulator Version 3 and could fly the Firebird Stratos well immediately. If you've not flown a radio controlled airplane, this airplane is forgiving in flight and durable in a crash, but I'd still recommend the Night Vapor and some time on a simulator before attempting to fly the Firebird Stratos.
The assembly instructions are clear, it took us less than an hour to put it together. The most frustrating part was getting the tape, which is used to secure the horizontal stabilizer and the wing fins, to separate from its backing. We managed to make use of all of the pieces of tape provided, but at one point I considered giving up on a few and just using packaging tape instead, which I'm sure would work just as well.
We've crashed it only once, it dropped about 20 feet (6m) nose first after one of its wingtips struck a telephone wire. The rubber nose absorbed most of the impact, but the foam just behind it was folded like an accordion. The wrinkled foam was easily repaired by applying heat with a hair dryer, evidence of this crash was erased. The breakaway wing works well, rotating off the plane instead of breaking the wing when a wingtip strikes the ground during a rough landing. So far we've only flown it in grass fields which are too rough for using its landing gear, so I can't comment on its durability, we hand launch ours and land it on its belly in the grass.
This airplane lacks ailerons, which limit its aerobatic abilities. One of the other reviewers here said that this airplane cannot be looped, but that is not true, it loops very well, even in low rates. Hammerhead, or stall, turns are also easily performed. Its polyhedral (curved upward at the tips) high wing design make it very stable when upright, which make inverted flight difficult to maintain because the airplane is constantly trying to right itself.
We've also enjoyed capturing video from the airplane using a small camera (we used the Hobby King Wing Camera) mounted to the cockpit area just in front of where the leading edge of the wing meets the fuselage. We used hook and loop strips (aka Velcro) to attach the camera, just needed to slide the battery back about an inch (2.5cm) from the usual location (snug against the front block) to keep the center of gravity over the main wing spar. I have included a minute long clip of video recorded by the camera on the airplane, including a spiral descent, final approach, and a belly landing in the grass.
Overall, this is an easy to fly and durable trainer at a good price. Everything you need to fly comes in the box, although I'd recommend picking up a spare 7.4V 1300mAh Lipo battery or two and a Hobbyzone 1.5A AC Power Supply HBZ1004 so you can recharge the batteries using house current.
