Blade BLH7500 BLADE mQX RTF

I have a handful of electric R/C airplanes and helicopters, so when people started talking about quadcopters I took the plunge and bought the little Blade mQX just to see how they fly. You should try one of these. The mQX is so light and has such low mass that it is practically indestructible. It's much more fun than I expected. It's a great indoor machine because you can hit furniture and even yourself with no harm. My other aircraft have to be flown outside, and it seems I'm always spending money and repair time keeping them in the air. Compare that with the mQX, where sometimes you might have to straighten out a bent prop or push a motor back down to mesh with the gears. I live at 7,000 feet, and the bird doesn't do so well outside in a breeze, although my son has pretty good luck with it. He says you can't hover well and have to keep it in forward flight at this altitude when it's breezy. At this altitude it doesn't have enough reserve power to successfully carry a keychain camera, but I've made a few short, wobbly flight videos with the 808 #16 keychain camera. The mQX can carry about an ounce. You really owe it to yourself to pick one of these mQX's up. They are inexpensive, and you'll be surprised at how much fun they are.

  1. Intro:

I bought this quad chopper as something really fun to fly and hard to break. I'm flying several other blade helicopters that are much harder to fly to the limit and break much much easier such as the Blade 130x. Compared to them this almost flies itself.

    Indestructible:

Well almost at least and I am flying over a grassy field to be fair. But I have crashed several times just playing seeing how many loops and rolls I can do in a row. They are soooo super easy, just level out at high altitude and hold the cyclic stick all the way left or right until she flips over and comes backup right.

    Parts:

The only parts I have damaged so far and it flys well even with them damaged or the rotor blades and the body housing.

    Background:

I am coming from flying 6 channel collective pitch choppers so maybe that's why I find it sooooo easy to fly!

    Tech Support:

Love the phone support just seconds a way but have never needed it on this aircraft.

  2. I came from owning a Parrot AR Drone. I still love my drone, but I really wanted something that I could swing around wildly. This little guy has a few videos of people doing 3D maneuvers on Youtube, so I bit.

Now I have zero real R/C Helicopter experience. I knew I'd likely destroy this during the maiden voyage. To my surprise, that wasn't the case at all. While I've now crashed it about 65 times, it still runs fine with the original blades and nothing else is broken. I get about 15-20 minutes flight time out of the included 550Mah Lipo depending on how brave I am.

After those 65 crashes, I usually only crater it every 3rd flight or so. It's a blast.

Included in the box are 4 spare blades.

My version is the one with the included transmitter as well. It works fine, as cheap as I'm sure it is. At least now if I end up with more Blades I'll have a remote already.

    Super fun!

  3. I bought the blade mqx rtf. The transmitter that came with it is not great. I suggest a dx6i transmitter and a bnf
mqx. This quad is durable and flies awesome. Get extra batteries.

  5. This is a great toy, and I'll be posting a full review shortly.

    For now, a few observations.

    1. Unless you have a lot experience, do not fly this inside your house. This toy is for use in large open spaces, i.e. parks. The reason is that the MQX does not automatically level itself when you release the stick. If you push the stick forward, the unit will start leaning forward (and flying forward) and will continue leaning further forward until you release the stick. When you release the stick, the MQX will continue leaning forward and flying forward until you counter the forward lean with a reverse stick input. If you hold it too long, the unit will begin flying backwards.

Beginner helicopters will auto level when you release the stick. The MQX WILL NOT.

    2. If you turn the MQX around using the left stick while it is flying forward, the forward momentum will be translated into sideways momentum, which you'll need to counteract with the right stick.

So, for example, if you are flying forward and push the left stick to the right to make a 180 degree right hand turn, when the unit comes out of the right hand turn, it will begin sliding to its left (your right). You'll need to counteract that by pushing the the stick to the right. It usually will stop as well, so you'll need forward input on the right stick to get it going again. The oppose is true if you make a left hand turn: You'll need to get it right stick input to the left at the conclusion of the turn as well.

    3. If you buy this product, you should also buy several packages of replacement Thruster Boom with Wiring (2): mQXs.

    You will need them.

The Thruster Booms are made from carbon fiber. Every time you crash, the carbon fiber will weaken, and eventually it will break. Even before it breaks, it loses rigidity. You can tell that it's lost rigidity when you have stabilization problems when you increase throttle very quickly. Or you can also just try wiggling the motor mounts while holding the center of the MQX.

Replacing them is incredibly easy. They come pre-wired. No tools are required. You just unplug the old ones and plug the new ones in.

Start by pulling the decorative cover off the center of the MQX. Then, unplug the wire from the old Thruster Boom that goes onto the main board. Then pull the motor mount cover off the motor mount (jiggle it while pulling it towards the center of the unit). Unplug the motor from the wiring on the Thruster Boom. Now pull the Thruster Boom out of the center of the unit and out of the motor mount. Reverse the process with the new one. Make sure that you line up the sides of the wire plugs that are painted green.

The only other common maintenance item on these involves the motors. The motor mount covers have a small lip that keeps the motor in place. When you crash, the motor sometimes jumps over the lip. When that happens, the motor will no longer connect with the gear. It's easy to fix: Just push the motor back down into the housing.

  7. I purchased one of these for my first Radio Control experience. It comes ready to go and with everything you need to fly it. I find this is a tough little copter. Being a novice I have had more than a few crashes. It is durable. It is capable of fast maneuvers and has proven to be lots of fun.

  8. This thing rocks! When it arrived, I started charging the battery and read the brief instructions. Then my son (age 9) and I took it out for a try. We have very little RC helicopter experience. On that first battery charge, we were able to successfully fly the MQX. Now, we weren't doing flips (yet), but we were able to launch it off each other's head (this was not in the Manual). That battery lasted about 15 minutes and we certainly tested its durability. I crashed it 3-4 times, and it just keeps going. By the second battery, we were practicing different flight moves and took it up so high it looked like a tiny water spider. The control on it is extremely responsive. I did crash it one time bad enough to bend a propeller, so I replaced it with the include replacement prop, and it just kept flying. I just ordered some more props and 2 more batteries. If you are even remotely ;=)thinking about getting this, do it, you won't be disappointed.

  9. I have several quads, I wanted to have some fun indoors and the binding to my radio was easy . Ok there is where it stops being regular micro drone, the other day I decided to take it outside, a little windy and got this thing up to about 300 feet with a micro camera attached to the bottom and that is where I messed up. The wind took it and it plunged into a large pond sinking right away :o( It was submersed for at least 5 minutes, trashed the mini cam and I thought the drone as well WRONG!! When I got it out of the water the light was on! I quickly unplugged the battery and took it home where it dried off over night and all day while I was at work I came home and plugged it in and it works flawless!! incredible! just incredible!
