Read First Before Buy Ambient Weather HP816A Handheld Temperature
I fly rc model airplanes. Even tho the weather bureau states what they weather will be one never knows about wind conditions. If the wind blows too hard then flying is out.
A few weeks ago our group of local guys were flying and the wind came up. We all chimed in and said it would be nice if someone in the group had a wind meter. Well Pat steps up and states I have one. He pulled out his Ambient weather HP816A. We soon find out that the wind was blowing from 5 to 8 mph. Some of the flyers were trying out their new quad copters. Once they found out what the wind was doing they all cancelled out. It was nice of Pat to have his meter with him.
I told him I had one coming too. I now have mine and when I head out for a day of flying I can let all the guys know what is going on. I have been wanting one of these wind meters now for about ten years and now I have one.
These are a handy item to have and it fits in ones pocket very nicely. The price and the shipping were outstanding. I got mine in three days. Now if the weather would just cooperate. Many thanks to Amazon for carrying this product.
This little guy does the job: getting the basics of wind speed and temperature that I need to write brief statements of weather for field sampling conditions. As others have noted, be sure the battery is fully seated upon receiving the instrument. Comes with a lanyard, or will fit in a standard-size clam-shell eyeglass case (not included) if you need to protect it.

It works but it is difficult to calibrate windspeed unless you are standing next to one of those cup jobs.

I recieved my Wind Meter the other day and i love how helpful it is. I use mine for flying model airplanes and helicopters. It is very accurate and help me determine if its too windy too fly my smaller Planes. I am also a Volunteer Firefighter and have used these before on Wildland Fires. They are used for measuring wind speed and temperature during Wildland Fires and help determine how fast a fire will move and if its safe or not to place crews in the area your measuring the wind speed. Very Useful Product and Very Useful Safety Product. I reccomend this product to anyone who does these same Jobs or Hobbies.
BalasHapusI spray herbicides on the irrigation canals as my job. To avoid spraying a farmers crop, I need to know exactly how fast the wind is blowing. The Ambient Weather HP816A Handheld works great at an affordable price, it also comes with a one year warranty.

BalasHapusI gave this wind meter to my Dad as part of a birthday basket full of different things. He recently retired and took up flying RC airplanes as a hobby. He and members of his club would routinely argue about the wind. This little meter gives them a much better sense of how strong the wind is blowing and whether or not they should fly. It is small enough to tuck into his flight box and it is also a fun conversation piece.
BalasHapusIt's a good instrument, but if you are looking for very sensitive one, which is able to measure 0.1 m/s or so, then it's not so accurate.
BalasHapusI purchased this anemometer to measure wind velocity when flying my Radio Control planes. The accuracy seems to be good. The negative reviews about the instrument taking a long time to turn on must be written by impatient people...it takes about two seconds. I am very satisfied with the instrument and the shipping and packaging of the product.
BalasHapusThis unit is very good quality...it's very sensitive putting it up to the return duct of my living room, will spin it...so I believe you could use this to measure static pressure in furnace ducts,no problem! It has nice features including an averaging feature...I'm very happy with my new "toy"...but you can actually consider it a tool IMO. Very nice find.
