Double Horse 9101 Electric Helicopter

Seriously, this helicopter is worth every penny, if you want to try it without spending a lot of money. During first test flight I noticed it going backwards on lift off, now not being an expert in this I assumed this was not normal, so I simply moved the battery forward a bit to remedy that. Now it lifts straight up, directional controls all work fine; have not tested range yet. I started flying indoors first (I have a cathedral ceiling that gives me about 17ft of height, and it fly's great.

After that I took it outside and it got away from me and went into Tree, mostly my inexperience and possibly too windy (est. 10+ miles per hour), It dropped from tree about 20+ feet high and canopy cracked; glued and put electrical tape on and I'm back in business, when I started it back up it started to shimmy on lift off, I then noticed that crash also bent balance bar, I replaced that with parts kit I also bought at same time(also recommend to buy), and I'm back in business.

I'm going to continue to fly indoors until winter wind dies down before going back outside. I'm hooked!

P.S. when I'm not flying this helicopter, I'm practicing on simulator app; found one free on apple app store (same one is also on google store), app is called absolute rc heli... I do not work for any of these product vendors, I'm a consumer who always wanted to fly helicopters and these products have given me the chance to do that, thanks Joe

  1. Exactly as described in the sellers description. It sure does work like a charm. Excited to play with it more.

  2. This thing is rock solid stable and easy to fly. Take it out of the box, charge it, and you're ready to go. It is stable enough that you can stop it at a hover and let go of the controls and it will stay there (inside or outside no wind of course).

I give it a "I like it" on educational value because things like this are great for developing hand eye coordination.

As far as durability, it's good for what it is. If you land it hard or smack it in to something chances are you will break something. That's just due to the weight/momentum of it. The good thing is parts are readily available and not expensive. I do suggest one of the micro sized ones to practice with at first. They are so light you can bounce them off the wall, ceiling, floor many times without breaking them.

Overall it is a great RC heli, especially for the price.

  3. Received this today, and it only took 2 business days to arrive with standard shipping! Loved that.

Let me preface this by saying that I bought a micro Syma S108G from Amazon which I ABSOLUTELY love. Great little micro helicopter. I thought I "knew it all" after flying the micro and upgraded to a 6 CH 3d Esky helicopter. Could barely get that thing 3 feet off the ground without crashing. Realized I needed more practice before upgrading so purchased this.

It is VERY stable. It is quick, so you have to be careful with the transmitter. It needed a little calibration out of the box (adjusting the trim levels), but got it to work pretty quickly.

Also, out of the box it has barely any forward movement. After reading reviews and youtube videos, its a common problem with an easy fix. Take off the canopy (front of the helicopter) and put some clay or in my case two or three pennies into the nose of the helicopter and tape it in. Should fix it right up.

It has two modes, "normal" and "quick". Quick mode moves the helicopter front and backward quicker. Nice feature. '

No issues yet! Will update if anything goes wrong. I can't complain for the price ($45 + free shipping). It's the best deal out there! Recommend.

  4. Well I bought one locally and the remote didn't work. I read reviews this was a problem. I ordered this one, for half of what I bought local only to find out you need EIGHT batteries, not just four. The battery compartment pops out to put 4 more batteries on the bottom. Do I feel stupid, except I paid less. My gift recepient is having so much fun!

  5. This is one the the very first helicopters that I have purchased. I have to say that right out of the box I was impressed with how it flew.
My first flight I had it a good 40-50 ft in the air. I lost control of it and it ended up crashing. There were a few scratches and the balance bar nicked the wings up some but it still flies the same way it did that first time.
I am looking forward to much more time flying this heli.

The ony complaints that I have is the battery life. It takes a good 4 hours to charge the heli and you get 15-20 minutes of flight time. I do plan on buying more/better batteries in the future so hopefully this won't be much of a problem.

  6. if you are looking for a great heli that is pretty durable this is it. Add 3/4 oz weight to nose and go flying. Start slow get used to the controls, then change to high and have a good time.

  8. Length:: 2:51 Mins

Update: 4/26 since I have chaged it all over to the yellow version, canopy, blades, rear tail blade, added a 2200mah drop in battery, popped in new motors, and a new HD 720p camera here is my latest flight up to around 100-125 feet, the 1080p version is over at you tube.

I bought this gray and black version originally for my son in law but he crashed it and did not care for I thought at first, hey $40, good for parts, then I replaced the white blades with the black 9053, put the tail from a Sky king 8501 and rewired the motor so it would spin the correct way, did the blade flip like I did on my 9053, put some nice rubbers bright orange on the skid, put a 1/4 nut in the nose end for weight, lube it all with dry silicone spray, trimmed the canopy for the lower blade height, painted it bright yellow, and now I got a great bird I uploaded a small test video i did in my front yard, does not have the speed my 9053 does but its still fun, plan to attach on my 9101, 9104 and 9054 a 808 HD key chain HD camera and see how that looks.

  9. This is an awesome looking helicopter, about 25 and a half inches long. It's relatively easy to fly, but a little more difficult to adjust the trim. When we flew it for the first time, we bounced it off the roof and flew it into a tree with no damage whatsoever. The only complaint is that the battery cable disconnects too easily when it's charging.
