Observations on Double Horse 9116

Read First Before Buy Double 9116 Channel RC Helicopter

Double 9116 Channel RC Helicopter

Received my DH 9116 fulfilled by Amazon and it arrived on time, intact, new and everything functional. I had a few weeks experience with the small V911 4 channel, gained a lot of proficiency, but wanted something larger for outdoor flying as we head into Spring. Its a nice size, about 16" long...I haven't weighed it, but its not light so I'm hopeful that it can handle a mild breeze. It is much heavier and more substantial than the Blade 120 SR which I was shown at the local hobby store. Here are some key points that may be helpful given my experience so far:
1. I have only experienced flying ( to set up and trim) in my basement, low ceilings and limited area. Out of the box it was a bit wild on takeoff and required significant trimming to hover...2-3 bars of right aileron, 2 bars of back elevator and a bit of left rudder. I did add sub-trims for each, which do stick when TX is powered off, but they didn't seem to do much. I tried adjusting servo connectors, but that made things worse so I reset to defaults. A more experienced person may have more luck with that. Anyway, with trims, the swash is level and I can get a good solid hover at about 5' altitude. Even trimmed, you may need to be quick on the control sticks on takeoff to counteract ground effect and get it stable. Smaller 4 channel experience will help with this.

2. It is true that if you bang it around and hit stuff, the metal fly bar will hit the canopy, but this shouldn't be a problem as you get used to it and new canopies are cheap and available.

3. I removed the metal horizontal stabilizer as it is only decorative and can catch the main rotors when trying to take off. I kept the side bars on the tail boom to retain CG and add support. I cut a black 1" servo arm from airplane parts bin , reamed two holes for the screws and put that across where the horiz stab was. No more catch on start up.

4. There have been many complaints regarding tail rotor motor burning out. Mine stopped working and copter spun wildly on takeoff, of course. I pried off the plastic cage covering the motor ( lift with xacto knife behind tab locks) and discovered that a small ground wire had been poorly soldered to the motor casing. I re-soldered it and added a small piece of elect tape and it worked fine again. Check that before replacing the tail boom and motor. Caution...when testing this fix, disconnect the main rotor plug from PCB and remove the tail rotor prop for safety. The main rotors are large, fast and can do some serious damage to hands, etc.

5. Batteries. The product description and even the packaging says LiPo, but they are 650 MAH Li Ion, not Lithium Polymer which have a much higher energy density. I had ordered a 2nd when I bought the DH and wish I hadn't. This copter burns through them very quickly, airtime is very short. I bought a Thunder Power 2 cell 910 MAH 25C 7.2 volt LiPo locally and they're sold on Amazon as well. Consider, however, that the charger that comes with the DH9116 may not be appropriate for LiPo's. I wasn't about to try it, plus I have a quality LiPo charger from my airplane experience. I was able to retro-fit this battery, but it required some modifications to do so. The TP 910's JST wire is too short so I had to make an extension...easy, buy one on line, or hobby shops have male and female connectors so just solder wires together and shrink tube it. I needed about 2 more inches for the adapter. The TP 910 is similar weight, but longer, but the DH 9116 has plastic stops to keep the original batts from going too far in. Simply cut the bottom of those tabs with small side-cutters and twist off the tabs with small needle nose pliers. That give about another 1/4 inch to slide the TP 910 in far enough to get a good CG and a nice snug fit when the canopy is put back on. Also, if you're not using a balancing charger, you won't need the CSR connector which just gets in the way. I cut it off (4 wires, one at a time so not to short battery) and the 2" extension reaches the JST plug on the side which can be used for charging or discharging. The difference in power and runtime is amazing. More power response and seems to run twice as long. I'll be buying one or two more of these soon. You will be very pleased with the difference if you can set it up this way...I won't even use the two original batteries in the field.

Since I haven't flown outside to judge performance or endurance I will follow up. I can say that indoors, in a small space, it isn't nimble like a small 3 or 4 channel. The weight causes a lot of inertia and angular momentum. It won't pivot well in place without correction, but that likely won't be an issue outdoors. It also sounds great, more like a real heli, moving a lot of air with those big rotors. Has cool white LED headlight and blue flashing tail light, easily disconnected if you think it will conserve power.
Hope this helps in deciding to buy or modifying some things to make it better.

Best Review on Thunder Power RC Ultra Micro Batteries

Thunder Power RC Ultra Micro Batteries

I got this charger because I have two RC planes that use little 1S 3.7v batteries and I wanted a good way to keep my plane in the air while cycling through batteries. This charger does the trick PERFECTLY. It comes with the AC wall adapter for charging at home, or via an AC adapter in your car, or you can go the route I do and use the alligator clips to hook it up to a 12v battery like those you'd find in UPS power backups. Using it that way, I can take a little 12v 7ah batterty with me to my flying field and use this charger to keep batteries for my plane filled up faster than I can use them.

The use of the unit itself is very simple! Just hook it up to a 12 volt power supply, plug your battery in, and wait for the light to turn green for the slot that your battery is plugged in to. It charges each slot individually so you can have three green lights, and one red light. Just grab a green light battery to swap out into your RC plane (or whatever you're using the batteries in) and put your spent battery in the slot and wait for it to turn green again.

Bottom line: If you want an inexpensive simple unit to charge up to 4 batteries at a time, independently, this is perfect. I strongly recommend it.

Best Review on Futaba 3PRKA 2 4G FHSS R203GF

Futaba 3PRKA 2 4G FHSS R203GF

After nearly 20 years of use, I retired my Thunder Tiger Panda RC truck for this. It's RTR (after proper engine break in, instructions really well written and DVD included) and a great car for a basher like me. The EZ start is very cool, basic plug and play. The TRX 2.5 motor is really responsive and fast. I'm not into speed but I can easily see this hitting 50mph.

I worried about going from an old Futaba Controller to the Traxxas TQ but I really had no problem as they are just as functional. It's tough as I flipped it several times and crashed (Zigged into a curb!) it with nothing more than minor scratches.

If you need a great Ready to Run car: This is it. All that it needs is Fuel, charge the EZ Starter Battery and go! IMO, Traxxas knocked it out of the park with the Nitro Rustler. The accessories like the fuel bottle, extra filter, Filter oil, etc are well made too.

For all of those people out there saying how horrible this toy is they are wrong. It is excellent and fun. Setup time was nill maybe 10 min. The box says DO NOT FLY IN WIND. It isn't a gas helicopter so it wasn't designed for weather scenario ie wind. If you have space to fly this bad boy around ie a barn, closed warehouse, or a large enough room it is pretty fun and entertaining. It can be flown on a no wind day but that is hard to come by. The product is durable to a point. I got this and let my dad fly it straight into a wall, crashed it on the ground (straight fall from 10 feet), and the thing was absolutely fine. Now I wouldn't recommend doing this but it is pretty durable considering. Plus, if you were to break the fuselage or prop they can be easily bought on ebay or from a hobby shop for about 8 bucks. When flying the product get it off the ground and up in the air about 3 feet. It will stabilize there. If you are close you get ground effect or prop wash which makes it unstable. I am very impressed with the low cost of this toy. It is fun and provides 20 minutes of entertainment. The only downside is once dead it can take 3-4 hours to charge but great for a quick getaway. If you don't have a large area to fly indoors get the smaller Syma helicopters for about 20 bucks. But if you got the space take a ride with this guy. It is fun. I am very pleased and order a second one to give me double the flight time. Hope this helps.

When I ordered this S107 helicopter, it cost so little that I didn't expect it would survive for more than a few days. I've been flying it for two weeks now, and it has been much more durable and reliable than I expected. I've gotten a bit daring with it and run it into walls and furniture a few times, and made a few hard landings, but it is so lightweight and durable that the only damage I've experienced are a few nicks in the plastic main rotor blades. The spinning blades haven't damaged anything in the house. Since it's holding up so well, I might order some replacement blades.

This heli is so stable that even a beginner can fly it safely right out of the box. My 16 year old nephew was flying like a pro in minutes. Push the left throttle controller forward, the rotor blades spin, and the helicopter lifts off. Slight adjustments to throttle position will make it climb or descend. Even a beginner will quickly be able to hold desired altitude. The heli has two counter-rotating main rotors, each driven by independent motors, so there is no need for a tail anti-torque rotor. When you command it to yaw (turn) left or right, it varies the rotor RPMs and smoothly rotates to the desired direction. Using an on-board gyro, when you center the yaw control, the heli holds its heading, steady-as-a-rock. If you notice any slight tendency to yaw, there is a trim knob on the controller. Unlike a real heli or more expensive model, the rotors won't tilt in any direction for forward/back/or lateral movement. There is no way to control lateral movement while hovering. A small rotor on the tail lifts or lowers the tail boom, pitching the entire heli forward or back, allowing forward/backward control. Couple this control with yaw control and you have everything you need to fly around the house and land on furniture, in a very cheap R/C toy.

You'll only get 10 minutes of flight or less out of each charge. It comes with a USB cable to recharge the helicopter battery from a personal computer or USB wall plug adapter. I use the USB wall adapter from my iphone. It takes 40-50 minutes to recharge. The wireless controller needs 6 AA batteries, is not rechargeable, and uses infrared light signals to control the heli. I've flown it outdoors at night with a calm wind. On a full charge it will easily climb to 50 feet or more with no problem. If you have much wind, it doesn't fly forward fast enough to hold its position. This is an indoor toy. I've been having so much fun with it, I've ordered 3 more as gifts for my sons and nephew.

This is the most fun you can have at this price; 10 minutes at a time.

24 Micro Brushless Rally RTR

My review of the new 1/24 stock brushless 2.4 ghz Rally
($150 from amazon.com)
Background: I own a micro-t, micro-dt, and a mini-z racer. I build 1/24 scale race tracks and compete against my friends.

My review from the standpoint of track racing
Pros:
Can handle a track with jumps and bumps, mini-z can't.
Faster than stock dt, micro-t, and mini-z (overpowers corners sometimes)
Body absorbs wall strikes instead of the wheel. Open wheeled vehicle= broken steering knuckles
2.4 ghz works better than am crystals
Losi's steering is improved: returns back to dead center better than micro-t, dst
Run times on stock NiMH battery are longer than I was expecting: runs about 20 minutes
Losi made it so you can swap the battery easily: no pulling the body off

Cons:
My brushless rally will not accept a two cell lipo! The steering servo moves but the motor will not spin.
The gears are wide open on the bottom: grit gets into the gears easily
The car is huge, it dwarfs the 1/24 mini-z, which makes it weird when racing my friend
I prefer aaa batteries to battery packs. The chargers and batteries are cheap and abundant.
Stock steering radius is horrible: fortunately steering ratio mod found on microtforum's mod section is quick, easy, free, and makes the car work great for track use.

Heres how I stack it up against my other micros:
Mini-z
($180 from atomicmods)
$180 gets you a great car, but no radio. Losi brushless comes with a 2.4 ghz transmitter for $150. Mini-z is smaller so you can make smaller tracks. Both handle about the same, (after steering radius mod). Mini-z has better low-end throttle control allowing for smoother handling on corners, compared to Losi where I find myself fluttering the trigger to find that butter zone between too much throttle, and not enough. I like mini-z's brushed motor for track racing better than the brushless because when you let off the gas it is like putting on the brakes. Losi brushless flies down the course and when you let off the throttle it just continues to coast. I still just haven't mastered actually pushing the trigger the other way and using those brakes.

Micro-t
($80 on amazon)
This where it all started for me. It's a 1/36 scale making it really small. This is a great way to go if you want to convert a living room into an rc track. The 1/24 rally seems a bit big unless you are working with a garage or a basement perhaps (a car port in my case). I recommend a set of atomicmods aluminum steering knuckles and buy carbon fiber steering linkages by the truckload. The lipo battery upgrade was overkill for inside use. If you have the extra space Losi Rally is the way to go for track racing. The micro-t is a fun little racer, but the rally is a better all around platform.

Micro-dt
($90 on amazon)
Micro-dt is a bit bigger than micro-t and handles bumps and fast speeds better than the micro-t. The stock NiMH feels week, I recommend the lipo upgrade. The micro-dt is not much of a track racer because of the poor steering ratio, but is a great for a friendly micro rc bash fest

If you don't want to dish out $150 for the brushless 2.4 rally, there is a brushed, AM frequency rally also available from Amazon.com for $109.

Thanks,
Jared

Syma Channel 2 4G Quad Copter

I have had helicopters and planes but this is my first quadcopter so, I'm not going to pit this against more expensive quads available. I just want to start by saying I had NEVER had so much fun with an RC anything. Compared to all other flying and land vehicles this is my new favorite. I will never buy another helicopter again for sure. This little cheap quadcopter has made an overwhelming impression on me. I can't believe the technology and durability for this price, it truly is impressive. The build QUALITY is so simple and yet so perfect. There are no frills such as blinking LED's for looks or extra design for the body. This is a plain design but don't let its outside looks fool you. The gyro is top notch. I have purposely flipped this thing repeatedly, a neat feature I will mention later, and it always finds itself upright and stable. There are two speeds, High and Low. Low is wonderful for beginner flyers. I have let me 7 and 8 year old girls fly this and they do very well and have zero flying experience. The high speed is well, HIGH! You better have some skills built up when you press that button! It can perform some amazing feats in the right hands. The eversion flip feature I mentioned earlier is a bonus Syma built in for extra fun. Just get it up to about 10 feet, push the button and hit the right stick and a perfect eversion flip it will perform, every time! FLIGHT TIME is about 8 minutes, which is good enough, wish extra batteries were available easily though for extended flying time. DURABILITY is equally on par with the flight characteristics, this thing is dang near indestructible! No foam or balsa here, or wood props to splinter into pieces every time you whack something. I have smacked this thing into the side of my house at nearly full speed from about 15 feet high outside and it crashed down from there and hit my driveway. I flipped it over and took right back off, no issue or damage! AMAZING! The other thing I have done is rigged a small VGA camera to it. Now this thing is not meant to handle any load and amazingly it does well. The camera is quite small almost a keychain type. I have taken some very cool footage so far. The biggest thing this opened my eyes to was the possibility of bigger and better quads that can handle larger camera for FPV or first person view. I would love to see SYMA build a larger more powerful quadcopter capable of carrying a goPro or something for FPV. I would pay $200 just for that! Syma has made me a believer in its brand and I will always look to them from now on as a top notch RC brand, I expect to see BIG things from them in the future, hint, hint SYMA! So in conclusion whether beginner or expert you will thoroughly be impressed with this little quadcopter as it's worth the low, low price and probably $100 more! Amazon's price is the best hands down don't waste your time looking elsewhere. Don't hesitate to buy if you are interested in trying out a quadcopter for yourself, you will not be disappointed!

After looking for R/C trucks for my 3 year old boys at stores like Toys R Us and some local hobby shops, I did a little research on-line and discovered Maisto R/C trucks. I saw a video for one on Youtube and was convinced that this was the one I needed to get for my boys to play with inside the house or to especially use outside of the house. Their trucks climb up and over most any obstacle in their path. I would lay down in our backyard and they can get their trucks to crawl up and over me! Manufacturer may say it is for kids older than 6 or 7, but my three year olds took little time to learn how to work their trucks. The only con I can think of: batteries. If you use it a lot, some recharable batteries would be a good idea. These trucks use them up pretty quick.

This Micro Heli is the best. Th Syma s107G is probably the best micro indoor heli on the market. This one is a step up as it includes a camera (not really HD like advertised) that is 640x480 resolution that makes flying just that much more fun. It also includes a frame that is painted black (instead of unpainted like the s107g) and the plastic parts are black where they are white on the s107g. If you like the black look, this one has it. If you want to fly without the camera, not a problem, it snaps off and unplugs. I get over 6 minutes of fly time from mine and about a 40 minute charge. Do not overcharge the batteries. When the charged light comes on, it will need to be removed from the charger so it doesn't overcharge and ruin the battery. If you break something on this heli amazon and other re-sellers on the net sell all the parts to get it back into working order. This is really a great toy for 14+. It is easy to fly and the kids just love watching the videos I make of them! If you want an indoor heli . . . this is the one to get (or the s107G if you don't want the camera). Be aware that there are many fakes made of this and the s107g. You can search the internet and learn how to tell a knock-off from the real thing! Good luck flying. God and evil.

this book is a very good resource for an individual looking into this topic either for the first time or are relatively new to the argument.

I am impressed with the large number of essays covering a vast number of topics, its great to see so many different individuals contributed to this book thereby attempting to reduce bias. While the majority of the contributors are Evangelical Christians, the number of scholars and theologians compiled in one volume are generally not available outside of a costly text book.
I am always hesitant to promote any one book, but rather I recommend gathering a number of books on the same topic, so as to be able to get a wide range perspectives, however this book does a good job of making those perspectives available.
I am also very glad to see the debate between William Lane Craig and Michael Tooley available in print, I wish there were more of these types of resources available.
In all I would recommend this for an individual who is learning about the topic of evil, its not overly heady, but does give a good basis of comparison.
While no one volume could possibly cover all points of this ever changing and hotly contested topic it's a good book, in true InterVarsity Press form this book is well thought out with highly credible contributors to create a very timely book.
There are a number of recent situations that have occurred where the question of how to reconcile God and evil or pain. This topic is certainly needing a few more good in depth studies but I am happy to say that this book does a good job of giving well thought out answers to the questions.

We must be mindful of overstating or over expecting any single volume to cover all sides of an argument. The most we should logically expect is that a volume worth reading (and buying) will have a good coverage. I firmly believe that this book qualifies.

Syma Tandem Chinook Picoo Helicopter

I bought this toy simply because my 6 year old son loves to have a Chinook. He is very happy of course to have this, but I think he didn't expect to have even much more fun. I was just helping him adjusting the balance for a few times at the beginning. He is now can adjust that himself and control the toy even better than I do (I think it is just because he flies it much more often that I do). It is also very durable. It has been bumped, crashed, and even abused a little more than it should be, but it's still flying fine after almost two months. one example of the abuse is that my second son of 20 months wants to fly it...... He just pushes the throttle all the way and releases it. Well, you know the result is that the poor little plane just shot up all the way until it crashed to the ceiling then fell straight down on the floor. That has happened many times.

Anyway, my point is that this is a wonderful toy for such a small price. It is fun and it is very durable.

Best Review on Electric Full Function Control Rechargeable

Electric Full Function Control Rechargeable

I bought this for my son's 10th birthday. It's our first real boat. Folks, this is not a toy in the traditional sense. He's also learning to fly RC planes and has been having trouble with left/right as the plane is heading towards us. One of the club members suggested a boat or car to help get him acquainted. Might have gone a bit overboard but when we took it out for the first run, we couldn't believe how much fun it was. This thing is fast.

We followed the instructions for the best battery hook-up and went with a single 14.8V 5000maH connected direct with bullet connectors. We also added a strip of Velcro to keep the battery from sliding in the tray even though Aquacraft provides enough tie downs that you could tow a car if you needed! The workmanship is fantastic and the paint is fabulous. I put a coat of high-quality car wax on it and it simply looks stunning.

We bought the Rx-R version which I confused with RC plane that typically use RTF for "ready to fly". But Rx-R means "Receiver Ready" so we bought a Futaba 3PM, wrapped the receiver in high-quality latex and encased in a ziplock back. We just tucked it up along the right side next to the batter and extended the antenna toward the bow. Worked perfect.

Back to performance - as this is a race boat, I'm sure hardened hobbyists would say it runs pretty good. As for me an my son, we were absolutely stunned. Not only does this thing rocket to top speed (estimated 35-40 mph) in seconds, it will turn on a proverbial dime. It's actually hard to keep up with but you can slow it way down and just have fun too. The battery lasted us a good 10 minutes the way we ran it and on returning to shore, the motor and electrics were lukewarm. As we get more used to it, I'm sure we will run it harder but we had plenty of straight-run full throttle sprints in the mix.

If you are looking for a high-quality rc racer that is an order of magnitude jump from the stuff you might find at an electronics toy story, just get this thing. Order two of the big 4S Lipo's and some tape for the lid and you are set. The Futaba radio we bought worked fine out to about 100 yards but then you really need to be a few feet up in elevation for best reception. But that is far enough anyway.

Growing up I always wanted a remote controlled airplane or helicopter but never got one no matter how many times I asked Santa for it. Now as an adult I can buy the toys I could only ever ask Santa for. Of all the things I wanted as a kid that I still wanted as an adult there was this, a remote controlled helicopter. And, lucky for me that with the massive improvements in battery and motor technology of the past few years they have managed to make such a wonderful miniature helicopter.

I've purchased several different helicopters over the past few years with varying degrees of success. When the gyro stabilized ones showed up on the market I was impressed with the responsiveness and control the online videos all showed them having. I have one that I purchased from a different retailer that claims to be gyro stabilized but it's just not quite right. After reading up on the Syma 107 I discovered that this other one may have been an attempt at a knock off on the Syma design. Once I knew better I bought an S107 and am definitely pleased. This is by far the most responsive easily controlled helicopter I have yet had. Syma definitely has my loyalty in terms of helicopters right now.

I love flying this little helicopter around the house or in empty theatres where I volunteer. If you have dogs, like I do, be aware that they may not like the helicopter quite as much as you do. My poor little yorkies run to the next room and hide when the helicopters come out...

There are a few limitations you need to be aware of if you're going to be buying an S107. First off this is an infrared remote controlled device. That means the range is limited. If your helicopter gets too far away from you your signal will stop controlling it, results may vary as to what it will do then. If you use it in a really sunny space or outside the sun can and likely will interfere with your infrared signal.

Air currents are a big problem for this little guy. A gentle breeze outside can push this a long ways, you may not feel the breeze too much but the S107 will and it will start getting away from you very easily.

Air currents don't just occur outside... If you get this too close to an air duct you may have some surprising flight paths result.

Helicopters work by creating a negative pressure zone above their blades. The helicopter rises not so much because it's pushing air down but because the air beneath the blades is more dense than the air above the blades and this causes the helicopter to move up into the negative pressure zone. This is important to remember when you fly your helicopter indoors. If you hover too close to the ground you may not be able to push enough air down to keep reducing the pressure above the helicopter and thus you will have no negative pressure zone into which the helicopter can be pushed. Also if you get too close to a wall, couch, tv, tray table, ottoman, etc... you can inadvertently create a negative pressure zone between the helicopter and said object. Thus causing the helicopter to suddenly be pushed into said object and potentially damaging the object and/or the helicopter. The helicopter is not broken if it suddenly veers into a solid object you were flying it near, you were just a poor pilot.

This helicopter is a toy, and it can be a very good educational toy at that. But, it is not a toy for young children. My brother-in-law got a lower quality helicopter for Christmas last year and let my four year old nephew and six year old niece fly it. Neither really understands the concept of finesse just yet, and as a result that poor little helicopter was slammed into nearly everything in the house. It didn't last long, and my brother-in-law was out one helicopter. Kids will want to play with this, adults will want to play with this, but if you want to play with it you'll need to be careful who else you allow to play with it.

GREATEST HELI YOU WILL EVER BUY

Most Popular on 2 4GHz Single Propeller Helicopter V911

2 4GHz Single Propeller Helicopter V911

The WL Toys V911 is a 4 channel fixed pitch helicopter with flybar that uses a 2.4 Ghz remote control. It comes with the helicopter, two batteries, a charger, and the 2.4 Ghz Remote. It is a great choice for people who are starting out with helicopters and want an inexpensive starter helicopter to use outdoors.

Because the helicopter is a fixed pitch helicopter with a flybar, it is moderately stable but can fly very quickly. Because it uses 2.4 Ghz, it has a good range and will not suffer from interference from lights (like some IR controlled helis will). Because it has replaceable battery, when the battery dies, you can simply replace it with a charged one. Because it is 4 channels, you can fly forward and backwards, go up and down, spin left and right, and can slide to the left and right.

Be sure to buy extra blades and a screw kit. The blades tend to get damaged when they hit things. While the flybar won't get damaged, the screw that holds the flybar in place can become bent, and when that happens, the helicopter will lose some stability and may experience what is known as the toilet bowl effect. If you experience vibration, the screw that holds the flybar in place might be too loose. If you experience a toilet bowl effect, try loosening the screw that holds the flybar in place.

Quality control is an issue for this helicopter. The first one that I received had a bad gyro, and so it would turn to the right. Even the "good" ones have a slight tendency to rotate to the right, and it gets worse as the battery level drops.

The second and third one did not have the swashplate adjusted, and so the helicopter would tend to drift. If your helicopter drifts instead of hovering, determine which direction it is drifting (forward, back, left and/or right). Then while the helicopter is sitting on a table, move the remove control in the direction oppose of the drift. Watch which levers move in which directions. Then adjust the black plastic/silver control arms to move the swashplate in that direction by popping the black plastic control arms off of the black swashplate ball joint and then screwing or unscrewing the black part of the arm against the silver part of the arm to lengthen it or shorten it.

WL Toys offers no U.S. based support, but you can find parts if you want to try to repair the helicopter yourself.

It is not a toy and because the blades can cause serious eye injury, you should not fly the helicopter near anyone and should not allow children to operate it.

The helicopter is fun to fly, but as you lift off, be sure to move the right stick about half way to the right. These helicopters have a natural lean to the left to counter the force of the tail rotor and you need to counteract it at lift-off or the heli will veer off to the left and crash.

If you don't mind spending a bit more, you should consider these helicopters:

Blade MCX2- Coaxial helicopter, 4-channel, replaceable battery, 2.4 Ghz controller. Great for indoor use, but can be used outdoors if there is no wind. Still slow. U.S. based support and good quality. Around $120.00 with the controller (less if you already have a compatible controller).

Blade CX2/CX4- Similar to MCX2, but considerably larger and so it can be flown in very light wind outdoors. Around $150 to $200. U.S. based support and good quality.

Blade SR 120- Fixed pitch, 4-channel, replaceable battery, 2.4 Ghz controller. Too large for indoor use. Great as a park flyer even with some wind. Very fast. Around $160.00 with the controller and $130 if you already own a Blade compatible controller. U.S. based support and good quality.

----
Here's a summary of the different technology choices when it comes to RC helicopters.

Blade Systems

Coaxial- A coaxial helicopter has two sets of blades, one on top of the other. Coaxial helicopters are generally very stable and move fairly slowly. They are great for beginners and for flying indoors.

Fixed Pitch- A single set of blades. Not as stable as a coaxial helicopter, and can move much more quickly than a coaxial helicopter. A "FP" helicopter cannot fly upside down. Fixed Pitch helicopters are generally for intermediate flyers and are used outdoors.

Collective Pitch- A single set of blades whose pitch changes to raise or lower the helicopter. A "CP" helicopter can fly upside down. For advanced and expert flyers.

Stabilization Systems

Gyro- An electronic system inside the helicopter that prevents the helicopter from rotating in the direction opposite the blades. All modern helicopters have electronic gyros.

Flybar- Two weights that are connected together using plastic or metal and which spin around along with the helicopter blades. Fixed Pitch Helicopters that have a flybar will level off when you release the stick. Helicopters that do not have a flybar (and Collective Pitch Helicopters) will not level off when you release the control stick. Collective Pitch and helicopters without flybars are not suitable for beginners.

Control Systems

Infrared- Use infrared light to control the helicopter. Bright lights, sunlight, and TV remote controls will interfere with the operation of the helicopter. Not suitable for use outside during the daytime.

Radio (27 Mhz/2.4 Ghz)- uses radio waves to control the helicopter. Suitable for use indoors or outdoors.

Battery Systems-

Internal- a helicopter with an internal battery that cannot easily be removed. When the battery dies, the fun is over until you recharge it. Most helicopter batteries take about 30-50 minutes to charge and allow for about 5 minutes of run-time.

Replaceable- a helicopter with a battery that can easily be removed and recharged. When one battery dies, you just pull it out and put a fresh one in and continue flying.

Single Rotor Helicopter Version Improved

I've flown RC planes while I was a kid. Wanted good solid trainer that parts were cheap and easy to find. DH9074 fit the bill. Rain or shine I can fly indoors and out (unlike infrared models). I can see kids 13 and under who have never flown before getting impatient and quitting. Like all RC flying, there is a learning curve. Unlike when I was a kid, there are plently of good simulators out there. I highly recomend FMS, which is freeware. You can use your keyboard. Heli's are far more touchy than airplanes. Things need to be balanced, like all high speed spinning objects. I've learned with coaxial heli's is to losen the blades and let centrifugal force spin the blades straight. Otherwise you are CONSTANTLY having to restraighten the blades. Otherwise, once things are trimmed, things are rock-solid stable. RC aircraft have come a long way from $100 radio/servos. Already dreaming about the DH9116 4 Channel.

Read First Before Buy 3 5 Ch Metal Outdoor Helicopter S032G

3 5 Ch Metal Outdoor Helicopter S032G

I bought this S032G and a S107G as my entry into the helicopter hobby. I read all the reviews and figured if I could just learn basic hovering skills before destroying the bird I would be money ahead in flight training. Let me tell you, the S032 impressed. It was well worth the price of entry and then some.

Here are my observations: The S032 is definately a good trainer and flys excellent indoors and decent outdoors. It hovers great. It is fairly manueverable. The motors are really powerful. Forward flight speed out of the box is ok for learning, add weight to the nose and it helps. Wind....if you see leaves moving this bird will soon end up in another county. Run time is 6-10 minutes depending on throttle. Recharge is 30-50 minutes depending on usage. Night flying outdors is fun with the led lights. I has been a lawn dart quite a few times and we have broken the right landing gear, the canopy mounts, lost one tail boom support, wasted one set of blades but this thing still flies. For the abuse it has been through I am amazed how it has held together!

Tips for improved performance. Break the battery in with easy first 2 flights w/ many landing to let it cool and complete uninterupted charging. Once the bird will not climb well, turn off and recharge. Never run these LiPo batteries dead. Order spare blades, crashing causes nicks on blades and this will reduce balance, performance and stability in the air. Spare blades are CHEAP! Add some clay or glue or any weight to inside nose of the Canopy to improve forward flight speed. To improve flight range, unwrap the antenna wire and let it hang. This gave me 4x the standard range and with the power these motors have I was able to fly WAY over the mature GA Pines surrounding our yard and about 100ft away.

OK, here is the really cool part. I let my 12y/o nephew fly it outside. After a few crashes he was getting the hang of it. Recharge...then on the next flight he was making this heli do things it was not supposed to be able to do. He would climb, spin, chop the throttle while giving forward elevator. It would nose down and dive and then he would give full throttle. The helo would fly across the yard FAST!!! and climb out of the dive, occasionally going into a banked turn until the flybar stabilzed the rotors. It was a hoot!!! We may be getting another to keep around as a trainer for visitors as we graduate to full collective pitch helos.

Team Losi Micro Desert RTR Truck

This is a fun, practical small scale RC. I've had Xmods, Xmods Evolution, Iwaver cars (Mini-Z clone), and Iwaver Monster trucks. The Losi Micro-T is the most fun out of the box. Tile, Carpet, Pavement present no problems for the Micro-T. The suspension on it makes jumping and landing it fun and controllable. It is quick out of the box. The quality level on this is much better than any of the Xmods/Iwavers I had, and it should be as it is more expensive. I would recommend this to any adult or responsible kid. Nothing has broken on mine, but it's entirely possible that something will, if you don't treat it right(Because it is so small). Luckily since Losi is a big name RC company there are full replacement parts available as well as aftermarket hop-ups(upgrades). I have bearings and a Losi Lipo Battery pack on the way!

I highly recommend this!

Tenergy 2000mAh Capacity Battery Security

The T4.1 Brushless is amazing. My buddy has a T4 with a brush motor and NiHM battery and I can just about run literal circles around it. He goes full speed across the field and I can catch up to him, then full throttle it and pull away like his was standing still. The controls are crisp, the truck is sturdy, and if you get a LiPo battery with a good charger (about 130 bucks) you will be set. I've already had a couple gnarly wipeouts but this thing took it like a champ. They only thing, though, is the stock rear tires will only last you one outing if you drive it on any pavement. Invest in some nice tires. I just got back from a nearby parking lot and they are already balding and this is the second time I've taken it out. (I know, it's not really supposed to be an on-road car)
If you've ever considered getting into RC cars but the price has always driven you away, this should change that.

Double Horse 9100 3 Channel Helicopter

This is the first helicopter that I have ever flow and so far it's been a blast. Seeing that I have replaced a couple of parts on it, I would have to say it may not be the best starter helicopter out there, unless you really take your time with it and make sure it is a clam day. I did a little research on it pulling left and found a great website explaining why that is, but Amazon will not allow links. :-( but if you Google reviews and read killbuckets review you will see this is common in all helicopters of this kind. So please educate yourself before giving this helicopter a one star please. This is turning out to be a great new hobby and can't wait to upgrade to a four-channel helicopter, but I'm sure that's not till quit a few more crashes . :-)

Happy Flying!

Ok, I have upgraded to a four channel helicopter, the Blade 120sr. I still like the Double Horse 9100 and it a great place to start, but it is really only a toy compared to a four channel bird. Being able to move the helicopter left and right makes it a whole new game. It is harder to get use the extra channel but once you do you get lots more control of the bird.
One think I really like about the Blade is that you can get parts locally, and they are cheaper and no shipping charges.
Not tiring to say the Double Horse is not any good, I still give it its 5 stars, and its a great cheap starter helicopter to see if you like the hobby and want to put a little more money into it.

High quality hex wrenches w/ball end work well for RC hobbies and Bikes!

Best Review on Bondhus 10999 Balldriver L wrenches ProGuard

Bondhus 10999 Balldriver L wrenches ProGuard

I spend my spare time flying and working on RC helicopters and planes. These hex wrenches work great and this package in particular has nearly every size I need for my small projects, and the nice larger version for when I need to work on my bikes. These are high quality tools that are made from a very nice metal and they fit and work well for me. I really like the plastic storage device they are slid into, that keeps them from getting lost in my field box and helps me get the one out I need. I turn them so the tools face back for easier removal. The ball ends are very useful when trying to remove some hex screws from a slight angle. The short end has straight hex ends, the longer end has the ball ends.

I like these enough that I keep a set in my garage tool box so it's nearby and handy. To be clear, on my bench I prefer using hex wrenches that have a handle and rotating end so it's easy to spin them and when working on complex heli's with many parts that makes it very convenient. I don't like hauling my bench tools to the field but often need a reasonable set of hex wrenches in the field and that is where these come in. They are also handy for things like feathering shafts where you might need 2 of the same size, then I have my bench set and my field set.

The low cost makes these very handy to keep around. These are also commonly sold in your local hobby shop, very popular set.

If you just need to smaller 6 wrenches they are available in this set without the larger 3. Bondhus 10946 Set of 6 Balldriver L-wrenches, sizes 1.5-5mm

HPI Racing 1146 Firebolt Motor

I bought a Traxxas Stampede for my son for his birthday. Motor burnt up 4 times in 1 week. Even though Hobby Shop was replacing for free it was burning $20 in gas to drive down there each time. They recommended different ways to break in motor but motors continued to fail. Researched online and found practically nobody likes the Titan 12t Motor and had similar problems. I ordered 2 of the HPI 15t Motors to see if I could find a cheaper, stronger alternative till I upgrade to brushless. The HPI motor I installed I didn't even break in. Wanted to see what kind of beating the motor could take. I ran this motor hard and had no problems. Decided to keep pushing motor harder and harder checking temps. 1 Day I ran the motor up to 230degrees and just new the motor was done. Smoke was coming out. Next day put it back on the street and what do you know, it still worked for a few days till it finally blew. I recommend this motor highly if you want a more reliable brushed motor for Traxxas vehicles. The Titan 12t could barely handle 140degrees. Not recommending you run the HPI to 230degrees but this motor is way more forgiving then the stock Titan 12t Crap!

Syma S109G Apache 3 5 Channels Helicopter

These little Helicopters always amazed me! I always wanted one. Expecially now that my kids are a little older (10). Sorry for the lengthy review! Just trying to help the skeptical shoppers based on my personal experience.

All Helicopters are flown indoors with 8 foot ceilings.

Helicopter 1 - Rating 0-5 Stars - $25
Christmas 2010 I finally bought one, it was from Kohls for $19.99. I was excited and couldn't wait to try it. I put fresh batteries in it and away it went. Right into the wall. I tried to calibrate the trim, but still no luck. This thing was out of control! I inspected everything. Nothing was bent nor misaligned. I tried, and tried again. It never flew with complete control. Kept crashing. Needless to say, it went back to the store.

I was discouraged and thought that all Helicopters were designed the same and that they had an extremely difficult learning curve. I knew spending $50 or more they would be easier Heli's to fly. (At least that was what most of the reviews said.) And I wasn't about to spend that much money on them.

Helicopter 2 - Rating 4-5 Stars - $24
Earlier in the year I picked up an Air Hogs Sharpshooter with the firing missiles. I thought it was cool and got it on sale for $24 at Target. Couldn't wait to give it to my kids for Christmas. Yeah it was a long wait, but my patience paid off Christmas morning 2011 when my kids opened the gift. They were excited and wanted to try it that second. We put batteries in it and charged it for the 45 minutes. It took a few tries to adjust the trim, but I was instantly surprised at how easy it was to fly! Even my kids learned after a few tries. Yeah it hit the wall or the ceiling about 50 times. But is durable and like a Timex, it keeps working. My kids love it and have fun shooting at targets and of course - each other! The only downside to the thing (other than the obvious charging time vs. flying time) is that the trim has to be adjusted after -almost- every flight. We all learned to trim the thing in seconds and it still maintains their interest.

Helicopter 3 - Rating 5-5 Stars - $25
Went to In-laws the same day and the kids told Grandpa about the Air Hogs Helicopter they got for Christmas and how much they liked it. Grandpa was surprised at how fast they learned and brought out a Syma 107 as a challenge to them. He wanted to see how good they were for himself. And they showed him just that. I also took notice of the ease of use and the "Gyro" action it had that the Sharpshooter did not have. I tested it thoroughly and was impressed! I want one now! The L.E.D. lights were very colorful and added to the "coolness". Then, as I was flying it, one of the Nephews walked up to it while it was in the air, and with his plastic hammer "WHACKED!" it out of the air! He hit it hard! I was mad for my Father-in-law. I thought for sure this thing was a goner! Especially how fragile they are with all the tiny moving parts. I picked it up and inspected it. No notice of bent, broken or damaged parts. It flew just the same, and didn't even need a trim adjustment! I was convinced and wanted to buy one to compete in arial games with the kids. Went home that same evening and shopped Amazon.com for the same model. Reviews were great! And then I noticed other models that MIGHT be better, which made it difficult for me to make up my mind. I held off from buying one for now and didn't want to make a hasteful purchase wishing I had waited and bought a different one for around the same price.

Helicopter 4 - Rating 5-5 Stars - $50
A week after Christmas I took my kids to get haircuts and afterward, went next door to check out a Toy store that sold developmental and educational toys. My kids love to go in there and browse around. Then we seen an Iron Eagle Helicopter. They had one on display to try and I gave it to my kids first. They loved it! Very similar to the Syma 107 and I would definitely recommend it if willing to spend the $50. I wasn't. I told the storekeeper, after I tried it, that I would buy it for $25, but she declined the offer. The "Gyro" on it worked great and hovered the same as the Syma 107. Just couln't justify the $50. But instead I went home and checked out prices here on Amazon.com and seen it there for $30. I wanted it and compared it to the Syma 107 having similar reviews.

Helicopter 5 - Rating 5-5 Stars - $29
Then I noticed what others were looking at. They were buying the Syma S109G Apache AH-64 3-Channel Mini Indoor Helicopter. With only 146 reviews vs the Syma 107 with 435 at time of writing this review, I was hesitant, but took a gamble at the new model hoping for better upgrades and ease of use.

I ordered it 2 days ago and got it in hand today. Super fast shipping from Xheli on Amazon! Brand New and ready to fly with a full charge. Of course I needed batteries for the controller. And it came with a USB charger preventing from replacing the 6 AA more often than you should in the controller. I had my kids try it out first and they were amazed at how easy it was to fly. Just like the other 3, they found the controls easy. There was a slight learning curve from the Air Hogs unit to the Syma because of the "Gyro" technology. They weren't used to the forward/backward control on the Syma. The Air Hogs unit flew forward naturally, but not backward. They liked the Syma alot, but gravitate to their Air Hogs Heli. We fly both simultaneously and have fun racing from point A to point B.

Overall I am happy with both the Air Hogs for my Son and the Syma S109G for myself. The pros are that they are both VERY easy to fly right out of the box. And the Syma S109 has a USB charger plug which connects to the computer to avoid draining battery on the controller (Air Hog unit does not). The Syma also doesn't need the constant trim adjust seen in the Air Hogs controller. The cons naturally, arecharging time of 45 minutes on both and battery replacement on the Air Hogs controller. The Heli's both have a permanent, Li-polymer battery which have 4-10 minutes flight time.

Recommendations: Iron Eagle or Syma (Either one) with advanced Gyro technology and Air Hogs
Sharpshooter for firing missiles. All super easy to fly!!! Take your pick.

Syma S107

Best Review on Syma S107 S107G Helicopter Colors

Syma S107 S107G Helicopter Colors

OK, this is the best $35 I ever spent. Er, should I say my kids ever spent for me for Christmas.

So, the good, the bad and the ugly. OK, so, I don't believe there is an "ugly" for this helicopter.

Stability:
For such a small helicopter this thing is incredibly stable. If you are a first timer you really need to get a helicopter with a gyro. The gyro is what stabilizes the "spinning" action or rotation of the helicopter in flight. I have tried helicopters without gyros before and believe me, you spend all your time just trying to keep the thing straight that you get frustrated and never learn to fly or have fun with it. Now, as you advance I can see the desire to not have a gyro to hone your skills. But, not as a beginner. At least not in my humble opinion.

Control:
The controls are precise. The helicopter responds instantly to every command. This is crucial for avoiding the ceiling or other objects. Now, for such a small helicopter it does tend to drift just slightly when trying to hover. Since you can't "lean" your helicopter left and right you have to rotate it to make corrections while hovering. But, again, for the price it still hovers amazingly well.

Takeoff's and Landing:
Hmmmm. Well, when you learn to fly a real helicopter you first spend several lessons just learning how to take the helicopter a few inches off the ground and keep it from rotating. With this helicopter I thought I would try the same, ease it up slowly and try to hover a few inches while I got used to the controls. This won't work. As you spin up the throttle you see the helicopter get "light" and ready to take off. As you reach optimum lift it will start to lean one direction or the other and if you continue just easing up the throttle it will slide one direction or the other and be out of control right from the start. Probably the only real negative of this helicopter. But, again, what do you expect for $35. The solution, spin it up slowly at first so that the helicopter gets "light". As soon as you see it ready to take off you need to gun the throttle. This will cause it to take off quickly and much more straight up. But, beware, be ready to ease back on the throttle as soon as it takes off or you will drill a hole in your ceiling. This isn't as tough as it sounds but I found this method necessary for a "smooth" take off.

As for landing, this is a little easier than take off but again, as you approach your target landing zone and try to hover it will tend to drift. I believe this is due to the air current put out by the rotors. It is over powering for the light weight of the helicopter as the air bounces off the surface and affects the ability for the helicopter to hover near the ground. So, at this point you need to just let go of the throttle and let it land.

Now, I will be the first to admit I am not an expert with this helicopter. I would guess you can perfect your takeoff's an landings and that's what makes this thing so much fun.

Battery Life:
Pretty much dead on with what the book says and what everyone's reviews say. 40 minutes to charge and 7 minute flight time. Yes, 7 minutes seems short and is a little short but it gives you a good flight time. It will leave you wanting more. I kind of like that so I don't burn out and get bored after one flight.

Tips:
Don't try to do too much on your first flight. I keep reading about people breaking their rotors right off the bat. No doubt easy to do and based on my near misses something I am sure to do also. But, I don't have any spares right now and I would guess you won't either when you first buy it. So, go slow. You will have fun just mastering the controls and it's flight.

Going backwards full tilt helps avoid crashes and stabilizes the flight to regain control.

Try to avoid hitting yourself with the blades, they hurt. Yes, I am speaking from experience. :) But, they didn't break nor did they cut me.

Well, that's it for now. Hope this helps. I will post more tips later as I get better. Have fun!

The honeybadger of RC chargers

Best Review on Hyperion EOS 1420i Net3 Charger

Hyperion EOS 1420i Net3 Charger

This thing is so versatile! It can take various DC inputs from 10.5 to 29V and can charge up to 14S with just 1 charger. It can do even more if you pair it to another unit. What I really like about the unit is how quality it feels. It has various safety measures and checks everything before charging. If you have an issue with your wiring, it will let you know. Also, the attachments included in the box are quite comprehensive. That was a nice surprise to have EVERYTHING that I needed to start up.

I bought it and left it sitting for a while, but my buddy came over the other night with a battery emergency. He had a 72V A123 battery pack that was over discharged. His charger gave up the magic smoke, so he needed my help. I didn't have a 72V charger on hand, but the versatility of the Hyperion came through.

We took his pack apart. I then tested for the mid point of the pack, essentially making 2 - 36V batteries in series. I then took the Hyperion and charged each half of the pack for about 20 minutes. This was AFTER hooking the Hyperion to my car's battery for a 12V source. To keep the car battery charged, I plugged in a Save-a-battery (available here on Amazon) to the wall and hooked it up to the car. The Hyperion fed the battery 6 Amps at 40V (240W), automatically turning on and off it's fan as needed. 40 minutes later and my buddy was feeling better about his battery and I was feeling GREAT about my charger.

I would recommend this charger to anyone working with batteries from e-bikers to RC enthusiasts or even Power Wheels modders!

Best Review on Syma Channel 2 4G Quad Copter

Syma Channel 2 4G Quad Copter

I love this thing, just received it today under the $35.99 (shipped) amazon deal and its perfect for indoor flying. My first quad copter was the Blade MQX ($149), which is great but needs lots of room space to really enjoy flying it, and most recently I bought the miniature 1SQ Quadcopter ($100) which is in my opinion the best quadcopter out there for outdoor flying because it handles high winds beautifully and its really fast. I cannot fly either of those quad copters indoors because they will zip from one side of the room to the other in a second, but this quad copter from syma is stable enough and has just enough speed that its very easy to control indoors but yet is a lot of fun. Its not the fastest quad copter out there, but at $35.99 its a steal. I highly recommend for beginner pilots that have mastered the coaxial copters (such as the syma 107) and want to move up to a quad, or the intermediate pilot looking to fly indoors to practice their skills during this coming long winter. It hovers great, very stable, and just a pure joy to fly indoors.

Blade MCX Mode 2 mCX

I purchased this Blade mcx heli after I purchased and became slightly frustrated with the more challenging E-Flite Blade CX3, mainly to better learn how to control and fly RC helicopters. The mcx was much simpler to fly, as it is slower and smoother than the CX3. As a result, I was able to learn how to master the controls and how they affect the heli's flight characteristics, and eventually applied my flying skills to successfully fly my larger CX3. The mcx is the perfect introductory helicopter for beginners, but it's also a lot of fun for more experienced pilots, especially indoors and in small rooms. It's virtually indestructible. A tough little bird that delivers hours and hours of fun... And since purchasing my first mcx, I've subsequently bought two of the mcx's twin brother, the E-Flite mcx S300! Although I've never needed them, I stocked up in advance on spare parts (extra blades, landing skids). But this heli is so durable and easy-to-fly you probably won't need all of the spare parts you might need for other helicopters. Buy this or it's twin brother, the mcx S300 -- you won't regret it!

Wireless Color Camera Complete Package

I read several reviews and watched a bunch on RCMania's website before settling on this one. I ended up ordering three of them, one for me and two for my 7 year old nephew for Xmas presents. The car is very fast, and will run over all sorts of obstacles. The fact that if it gets flipped over and can keep running is a huge plus for anyone that had to chase down there toy after it flipped over and became about as helpless as a turtle on its back. The soft tires are grippy and are great fun on pavement, grass or gravel. It's tough especially when my nephew seems to crash head on into any rock, tree, patio table, person, you name it and it still is in one piece. We ordered some of the extra batteries off of this site to keep it going. You can buy longer lasting batteries for not much more... I think we spent $35 for two 2000mha 9.6v batteries and another charger which last about twice as long. I definitely think that you will not be disappointed especially if you get them for around the 29.99-39.99 price range that I've been seeing on Amazon... At toys-r-us and kmart they 89.99. Go for it!

The "almost foolproof" quadrotor helicopter

After receiving my first Phantom through an Amazon reseller (NortheastCameraSupply, I purchased a second on a great sale I found on eBay for a minimally used one. The aircraft is simple to fly, but make sure that you watch the full line of instruction videos (in the Wiki support section, not the 5 minimal videos on the front support page). Pay attention and follow the instructions and you will have a very stable and excellent performing aerial camera platform. I suggest against using the GoPro mount included, instead use the standard GoPro case that comes with the camera. It is bolt on compatible. I also fly with a Contour Roam camera, mounted using a GoPro tripod mount coupled with a threaded stud to a Contour universal mount. Both produce safe and excellent camera mount systems.

Right off the bat, perform the simple compass initialization procedure described in the flight prep video. Then perform an IMU calibration (advanced type) using the NAZA-M Software Assistant --in addition to turning on Intelligent Orientation Control. The quad arrives with IOC disabled. You will get spectacular performance right off the bat, even in breezy conditions (wind less than 10 mph). On takeoff, make sure to add enough throttle to 'jump' the craft off the ground, an attempt to slowly lift off will result in the quad falling over.

It is wise to pick up a propeller balancer from a hobby store ($20). Balancing the props by sanding weight from the underside of the props will make a big difference in vibration. The props are pretty strong and a tip over that beats the props on the ground before the motors shut down is not likely to damage the props. However, if you strike a rock and chip or deform a prop, replace it before another flying session. Pairs of spare pros go for about $3 from most DJI hobby stores. A spare battery is also a good investment, you can get a Turnigy 2200 mah battery that works great and is totally spec compatible for about $15. DON'T PAY MORE!

The standard price is $679, again, don't pay more for a new Phantom. The radio range is about 1000 feet, but I suggest that you keep altitude below 500, still a long way up and at that height it's difficult to see the orientation (which is front, etc). This is where the Intelligent Prientation Control comes in handy. When engaged in Home mode, pulling the pitch/yaw stick (on right) will brig to unit towards you, pushing it forward sends the aircraft away. Right goes right and left goes left, regardless of the direction the aircraft is pointing. You do need to have it in GPS mode and the GPS must have detected 6 or more satellites for the function to work. The same is needed for hovering on position or its Return to Home/Launch failsafe to work. Speaking of which, if your battery gets too low, the quad will land itself. If you lose link between the controller transmitter and the Phantom, such as shutting off the transmitter, the unit will come back to the launch point, hover at 60 feet for 15 seconds and then auto-land itself.

A truly special and simplicity oriented R/C quadcopter and definitely worth the money. However, if you want first person video (a video image of what the aircraft sees), sorry, no can do. Any additions or use of the wifi/bluetooth used for FPV will interfere with the navigation and a flyaway loss of the aircraft is very likely. Moral: don't try it unless you want to lose your quad!

Definitely worth the money, does not take advanced flight skills (easier to fly than stabilized helis by far), and offers about 7 to 15 minutes of flight time depending on wind, quantity of maneuvers, and charge of the battery. This is a for sure BUY IT product with good company support and excellent user contributed tips and videos.
