Watch out for the "dancer" version

Syma Tandem Chinook Picoo Helicopter

I bought this toy simply because my 6 year old son loves to have a Chinook. He is very happy of course to have this, but I think he didn't expect to have even much more fun. I was just helping him adjusting the balance for a few times at the beginning. He is now can adjust that himself and control the toy even better than I do (I think it is just because he flies it much more often that I do). It is also very durable. It has been bumped, crashed, and even abused a little more than it should be, but it's still flying fine after almost two months. one example of the abuse is that my second son of 20 months wants to fly it...... He just pushes the throttle all the way and releases it. Well, you know the result is that the poor little plane just shot up all the way until it crashed to the ceiling then fell straight down on the floor. That has happened many times.

Anyway, my point is that this is a wonderful toy for such a small price. It is fun and it is very durable.

  1. Another gem from Syma!

The S026G "Mini Chinook" has turned out to be a top heli in my opinion. It is stable, decently quick, very easy to fly, with good flight time and reasonable charge time.

The mini chinook takes around 40-45 minutes to charge, which is right in line with most of the small helicopters out there. I prefer to use the Syma wall charger (get it, it's a great buy), but the USB cord will get about the same results. I never recommend using the remote to charge, as it eats AA's (6 at a time in the remote) very quickly. Flight time is fairly good, at just under 10 minutes in my usage.

In flight, the S026 is extremely stable, as easy to fly as any heli can be, but it does sacrifice agility to gain its rock steady flight. This would be a great heli to make your first as a beginner. It turns slower, but this allows you to remain in control at all times, and makes precise landings a cinch. The mini chinook is a bit faster in forward flight than a S107, and this can actually be adjusted by using the forward/reverse trim buttons on the top of the remote. By hitting the forward trim button, you can in effect give the S026 a "turbo" but you totally give up reverse when you do this. Be careful when doing this, as the S026 can get going very quick when adjusted all the way forward, and it doesn't have the quick steering it would need to avoid obstacles quickly. In a big area this can be alot of fun, but in a small area, keep it trimmed properly to maintain good control, which by the way, the trim is very easy to use.

All in all, a highly recommended indoor heli.

PS: check out the S022 bigger Chinook that is outdoor capable. Haven't flown it myself, but it's worth checking out.

  2. This is the third little helicopter I have owned, and this is the one I play with the most. I started out with a air hogs brand, but soon returned it. Soon after I bought the syma s107 (which is amazing also). But with the s107 you can tell that it was cheap in some parts. Not in this one, this one seems like some more thought went into it.

Get it, it's only $30 you cheapo.

  3. The Syma S026G is a terribly fun little bird, and for the low cost of admission there is no reason not to try one out for yourself!

Please note that there appear to be 2 versions of the S026G out on the market. One model will have the word "Army" printed in white above the fake engines at the rear of the heli. The second model has the word "Dancer" printed in a red box instead of the word "Army".

The "Army" version is the most desirable version due to its stellar performance.
The "Dancer" version seems to have a shorter battery life and may have issues staying afloat for lengths of time exceeding 30 seconds. To remedy the negative performance of the "Dancer" you will have 2 options.
1)fly with the body removed.(allows for tremendous performance and battery duration, but at the cost of durability)
2)Loosen the screws holding the body together near each rotor shaft, this will let your S026G work as well as the "Army" version.

Disclaimer: Although these fixes worked for my S026G, they may not work on yours. (that is IF you have an issue to begin with) Happy flying!

  4. This copter is a real "HOOT" to fly. It is difficult but a great challenge. I really like it.
It seems to be tougher than I thought it would be. It's tough and holds up bouncing on the grass in the front yard.

If you and older guy or gal, ( I'm 62 ) you'll enjoy the fun.

  5. Kay, my S.026 helicopter was great for the first week or so, then it crashed outside, and my grandpa fixed it. it flew great for another 2 days then for no reason the helicopter after it took off would point it's nose down and crash land. so I started looking for a new helicopter. as if it knew it would be replaced the next time I flew it it flew like the first time i flew it. it is a great flier!! and VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY durable. ( this includes falling from a 12 foot ceiling hitting the fan on the way and hitting the ground but still flying perfectly.)

  6. I'm shocked myself - This is going to be the most positive review I've ever written on any site, for any product - This copter is that good! I caught the heli bug 3 years ago while recovering from a broken hip, going from 2 to 3 to 4 channel indoor copters, as well as a few higher end outdoor models.

Of them all, the Syma S026 Chinook (and make sure it's this one! more on that later)is the most stable and easiest to fly Helicopter in our collection. It does whatever you want it to do - exactly. Having been through the horrors of two-channel units, which really don't do anything but go up and down (and spin out of control! semi-LOL), it's great to find an inexpensive that really flies - not randomly, but lets you be a real pilot.

Hit the up controller and it goes directly proportional to amount of throttle input. Go forward or backwards, and it goes where you want it to. Hover it right next to you, and it stays there until you send it on a new mission. Up, Down; backwards, forwards; sideways and box patterns - no matter what you command, it does it - and does it well.

Following several bumps/crashes into walls, floor and even a wife (I said I was SORRY!) the Chinook is still in one piece. (Knock on wood) The rotors haven't broken yet - a first for me. Usually I lose a rotor on these every other flight.

Now that they're installing LiPo batteries in the small copters, battery life is exceptional as well. Syma provides what they call a balancing charger, which brings my battery to full power in less than an hour.

As long as you can tolerate/understand the comically translated instructions, you will really enjoy this one. I would also recommend for child's use - just make sure they are supervised, and that you have some spare parts too. Top of the list should be an extra full set of propeller blades. Nothing is worse than starting to fly, hitting something just right (or just plain wrong) breaking a blade - and having to wait a week or two for new parts to come. I know one day even I will break a prop, so we always keep a few on hand.

Other than that, I can't see or foretell any other 'consumable' parts in this one. Just (carefully) take out of the box, charge and fly. Whether you're just starting out learning to fly, or are experienced - You're going to like this helicopter - A Lot!

BTW - Syma makes several versions of this copter, as do several other manufacturers. Syma also makes one that's almost the same size and price - It's not the same! Order the S026, and you'll get the right one. Chinnoks are not all the same. Happy Flying.

  7. As a former Chinook Crew Chief in the US Army, I was very excited to get this from one of my sons for Christmas.

I've owned many other RC Helicopters, but this one is by far the best! This one has a feature that the others don't - "Inch Forward" and "Inch Back" (that's what the user manual calls them) buttons on the front of the controller. These are really forward and aft trim settings, but they allow you to do some cool things like fly in an orbit pattern. I've also figured out how to do running take offs and landings.

This toy is very cool (it sounds amazing in flight) and is a lot of fun to fly. I highly recommend it!
